It had been...two weeks..or so since he had woken up in the ICU with no idea who he was just that something had happened and everything hurt like hell. Everything still hurt, but each day things got a little better. His leg had been set in surgery and was now in a weird metal brace, his left arm was in a sling, his head now had a lovely row of stitches that looked like train tracks running across his skin and the rest of his body looked the same way; stitches and bandages. If it wasn't cut then it was bruised and swollen. Today he was going for yet another scan, this one was to check and see how his arm was healing and to make sure that his broken ribs had not moved anymore. Peter looked up at the ceiling tiles as the nurse pushed his stretcher down the hallway, they came to the nurses station and the bed paused, "I will be right back Mr. Harris. I forgot your paperwork." she gave Peter a gentle pat on the shoulder before leaving him. Peter lifted his head and looked around, his eyes went to the rooms across the hallway and once again he wondered which room would his firefighter friend be in...then it occurred to him to check the white board that nurses kept updated at the station. Of course there were only last names listed, he frowned as he looked at the board, he could not remember the woman's name, but he had heard someone mention that he was related to her. So when he found someone with the same last name as him he decided that was where he would start. Of course that was the first step. The second one would be actually moving. Knowing he did not have much time Peter pushed himself up, taking a deep breath as his body protested, his pain meds would cover him for a little while longer but that did not mean things did not hurt. Shifting his bad leg over he carefully set it over the side of the bed and then shifted his weight onto his good one and actually stood up. Grabbing the iv pole he used it to support himself and keep himself connected to the various fluids he was still on. The other Harris was in a room just down the hall, a few short steps away for a healthy person, but to him it seemed like it was a marathon every step hurt, but he had to check and see if she was in there. By the time he reached the doorway he was breathing hard and the pain went from his left leg all the way up to the stitches on his scalp. Gripping the iv pole with his good hand he nudged the door open with his arm that was in a sling. Once the door was open enough he hobbled in and then pushed it shut again just in case the nurse came looking for him, reaching the nearest chair he quickly sat down and took a deep breath, once his hands stopped shaking he looked up towards the bed and to the person sitting in it. "The nurses are probably looking for me....but I never got the chance to say it...so thanks." he said as he saw the person in the bed was in fact the person he had been looking for. Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Stephanie was finally being released, to go back home. It had been a long two weeks. She’d been struggling with the loss of her brother. In fact, she had just finished with one of her ‘crying when no one was looking’ sessions. Stephanie was waiting on Ben to come pick her up after he got off shift. She still had a bit so she was sitting on the bed with her nose in a book. Though she was dressed and ready to leave soon. Stephanie didn’t want to stay in the hospital attire any longer than necessary. Lost in the plotline of the book, trying to forget everything was near impossible. So she wasn’t really reading the book; more or less hoping that she could hide in it. Yeah right. Nothing could really hide the pain of grieving the loss of her brother, who had become almost a twin to her. She had no idea he was sneaking out of his hospital room. She couldn’t bring herself to do down and see him at the time of his “death”. Then she heard a voice. "The nurses are probably looking for me....but I never got the chance to say it...so thanks." No other voice could have frozen her more in that moment than his. This wasn’t a dream she knew that. If this was a dream she wouldn’t still be in pain, in her side. This was a nightmare though of epic proportions. “But they told me..” she started. Dropping her book as it went tumbling to the bed she went and hurled it at the wall. With a thud, it hit the wall hard as she bit her lower lip trying to stay stiff. No, she had done enough crying. “Peter” she stated at a whisper as she got out of the bed and wrapped her arms around him. She kept her hug very light, so as not to hurt him more. “You’re alive” she managed to croak out. It was probably a good thing he didn’t remember who she was, he would probably ask who she was and what she did with Stephanie. Of that much Stephanie was pretty certain. @peanut

He just sat there as she took a moment to realize he was there. Her reaction was not one he had been expecting, yet as the book hit the wall mere inches from his head, he did not flinch. It seemed like something he should have expected, it felt vaguely familiar. "Kata would get mad if she saw you throwing books." he said quietly as he glanced down at the book, a fuzzy memory was trying to cross his mind but it came and went very quickly. Then came that name again, the one everyone had been calling him since he had woken up. “Peter"The hug was comforting, but it still hurt, just like everything in his body at that moment. “You’re alive” with her arms around him he was unable to hug her back. So he just nodded, "Yeah...somehow...somewhat...I am here." reaching up with his good arm he lightly patted her on the back, he had been told that he had arrived at the hospital in critical condition, things were not looking good so it made sense for her to think he had died, but why hadn't someone told her the truth? Peter gently pushed her away from him so he could see her face, "You thought I was dead?" he asked. Tag: Stephanie Taylor

Stephanie looked towards her brother as he mentioned Kata getting mad about her throwing books. “She thought throwing my science book at you was amusing” The dark brunette pointed out the flaw in his reasoning. Then again Kata had been much younger than and Stephanie had been teaching her to stand up for herself.
When Peter pushed her away undoubtedly to look at her face she was clearly holding back tears. She’d been crying for days. Little had been able to console her and even then it was only temporary until another wave of tears would hit. Stephanie hadn’t cried like this since the day her biological parents died.
All she could do at his question was nod. There weren’t many words right now. Unclipping her dog tag from her ankle she handed them to him. She wanted him to see her name. How much could he connect with her name? Stephanie couldn’t bring herself to say she thought her brother was almost dead but if he got Kata’s name… there was hope right?

He had mentioned someone throwing a book at him, yet he could not fully remember when or why it had happened. All he had wanted to do was to tell this woman thank you, but then she started crying because someone had told her he had died, why would she be that upset if they had not known each other, that could only mean they did. But how? Peter took the tags when she handed them to her and studied them for a moment; her last name matched his, and he felt like he had seen the small objects before. "You're going to have to tell me where we know each other from...I am sorry.." he replied. He felt awkward, not being able to recall things and he wanted to get up and leave but his body was exhausted from him trying to get there that he knew he would probably pass out if he tried to stand anytime soon. So he stayed. "We have the last name, and you know my name and now I actually know yours. Stephanie. Anyone ever call you Steph?" he asked as he looked down at the tags again, "Our blood type is the same." he added randomly. Tga: Stephanie Taylor

[attr="class","tomhov"] TAG@peanut NOTES Stephanie put her tags back on her ankle. He clearly didn’t remember. “You’re my brother” she put simply. There was no other way of putting it. She was fairly certain his brain wasn’t ready for the whole your parents adopted me when Meg was born conversation. Stephanie wanted to get him back to his room but she was in no state either. “If Meg finds you in here, your name will be mud” she reminded him. Yeah.. that would go over well. Stephanie moved from where she was on the bed very carefully. The brunette sighed as she moved around a bit. She had to be careful, but she was also waiting on Ben to come and pick her up.
“Almost everyone” well by that anyone who was close to her. When he mentioned the blood type she raised a brow. Right now she didn’t have words for him. The only thing stopping her from hugging him at this moment was the fact she knew he was hurting. She wanted to hold on and never let go. Smiling a bit she was fighting to hold back tears, though with Stephanie it was always hard to tell. Whoever had lied to her. She was angry alright; angry at the medical staff for their lies, angry at herself for her rope breaking, angry at peter for being stupid.

"You're my brother." His eyes narrowed a little as he watched her movements, "So I have a-" he paused and shifted where he sat, trying to find a way that was more comfortable for his still aching body. His good hand reached over and lightly scratched at his IV, it was the third one he had had placed in; the first one he ripped out in a drug induced haze, the second he took out himself and tried to redo because he did not like the placement and the third one a spitfire woman of a nurse did and told him if he pulled it out she was going to have him cuffed to the bed. At the mention of their younger sister he looked up from his arm and over to Stephanie, the name Meg rang a bell. "I remember seeing a nurse with that name. She made some threats if I did not behave...I think sneaking out of bed goes against what she told me." Peter gave Stephanie a tired smile, taking his hand from his IV he reached out and lightly placed it on hers, he did not want her crying again, he did not like it. "Please don't cry and don't worry about whoever Meg is, she can get upset all she wants, she will get over it." Would she get over it? Yes, but not till she gave him a piece of her mind and let him know how stupid his actions were. TAG: Stephanie Taylor,

Stephanie tried to figure it all out. Someone had mixed something and if Meg hadn’t already gotten to them… Stephanie was probably going to knock them down a few pegs. Honestly, she wouldn’t even care if she got arrested at that point. Sighing she listened to him talk about Meg, though he didn’t seem to remember her either. At least not enough to know they were related. “James, Luke, Owen, Kata, Meghan, Samantha, Emily, Maggie” she purposefully left herself and him out of the list and mixed them up. Who did he remember? “Do any of those sound familiar?”
When he started rambling on about things she wanted to scream at him for forgetting, but that wouldn’t make any sense. This wasn’t some practical joke like when they were kids and pretended to not know who the other one was because they were mad at someone. For the life of her she couldn’t remember who had started that but the others took notes. She wanted to smack him and rightfully so.

He did not say anything for a few moments after she asked him if he recognized any of the names, he slowly reran through the list through his head. He felt like he knew those names but no matter how hard he tried to connect them to past events, he just couldn't. Only bits and pieces seemed to fit and even then they were scattered fragments. Parts of a puzzle he could not seem to put together without some degree of headache. "Meg...Kata.." his eyes narrowed some, "Are they related to us? That is a lot of cousins to have." the idea of a big family was scary, all those people but at the same time he kind of liked the idea..it seemed normal to him. "James, Luke and Owen..one of them is a doctor." he nodded and looked to Steph again, "I feel like I am looking an a jigsaw with only half the pieces and someone telling me what the picture is supposed to look like." it was starting to frustrate him. Very aware of his still healing body, he slowly leaned back till he was laying across the bed, "Even though it seems like...to me at least that I just met you. I can't help but feel a sense of comfort being around you, you're not a doctor or nurse and they have mostly been who I have seen since waking up." The hospital staff were there to take care of him but they were not the same as having family around you.

Stephanie could tell that he was trying to put things together. She sighed as Peter started trying to explain them as cousin. "No. They are Siblings." She wanted to say that Amelia and Jim just couldn't keep their hands to themselves, but as amusing as that was to make Peter laugh, it was disrespectful to her parents so she didn't say it. "Meg is a nurse, James is in the military, I'm a firefighter. We are the only ones who live in Chicago" she decided it was better than confusing him with what ever one did. But she might need to get to the ones that were here.
When he moved she slowly ambled up to help him. "You really shouldn't be stressing your body out like this Peter. You are worrying me" normally she didn't admit to things like that with him, but it had been an emotional rollercoaster of emotions the last few days. That and he needed to take care of himself.

Everything will be fine. We are fine now." he rested his hand on his chest and nodded, taking a few slow breaths he waited for his chest to stop aching before doing anything again. "Speaking of family...does ours know about all this?" Peter asked, he really did not know how'd they'd take something like that, more so he could not remember.

Stephanie tried to find a reason not to give Peter a good shake to the head right about now. Did he even hear himself? No, probably not; he'd taken a knock to the head and now was talking like he could do things just to do them? No. She gave him a look of disapproval. She would worry because that is what sisters did.
"Oh they know" she was fairly certain that the whole clan knew by now. With James, Meg, and Ben knowing it was likely ONE of the three contacted at least the parentals. Who told was anyone's guess. It was also certainly that Steph was in no position to know.
